Many people are scared to go on any work from home endeavor nowadays due to so many scams. Although there are a lot of scams out there and ridiculous get rich schemes, there are also legitimate programs out there as well that many people overlook because of fear. There are many ways to spot a scam and specific things that I personally look for. Here's a couple small tips to start with. Now many scams are well known to come from countries such as Nigeria, so this is one of the things I look for first. I find that USA based companies have the least reputation for scams and this is not to sound prejudice but unfortunately this is just the way it is. This is of course not to say if I found a work from home company in say India I would automatically assume they were a scam, but I would be a little more weary. I would look at grammar secondly. Now I find a lot of websites often have a misspelled word or two which is fine. However, if a website owners grammar is that of an uneducated sounding person, then I might think twice.
The First Things I look For To Spot An Immediate Work From Home Scam
1. A Free Hosted Website: I see a lot of these around and it is definitely a big red flag! If someone can't even afford to spend $10 a month to host a website and they're offering employment or better yet they want to show you how to make money from home, well obviously they aren't doing too well themselves. So you don't want to do anything they're doing! I would immediately get off that website and keep looking!
2. A Webpage That Doesn't Have A Privacy Policy: Now by law every website should have a privacy policy to let whomever visits their site know exactly what information they are collecting, why and who they are going to share it with, if anyone. A lot of websites have a subscription field where you will enter your email address and possibly more information, so you always want to make sure the company you are visiting is not going to sell your information or do something illegal with it. So having a privacy policy is a must.
3. A Company That Does Not Have A Terms Of Use Page: Now this particular page isn't exactly mandatory but it does protect the webmaster from getting in trouble or being sued for different reasons, so if he or she doesn't have this type of page I automatically think obviously this person is not concerned if they get in trouble or not. This is another big red flag! I think either they don't plan on being online very long or they are already scamming people so they are not following the rules anyways.
4. No Way To Contact The Company: If a company has no way to email or telephone them then they don't want to hear from you plain and simple. So if this company is selling something or offering a service, how are you supposed to receive customer support? This is definitely an immediate sign of a scam. Move on!
5. A Company who Doesn't Answer Emails: Now believe it or not, I've come across this problem many times and it's quite an annoyance. I'm wanting to purchase a service from a company and just to make sure they are legitimate I usually will send them an email. If I don't receive a response then I know it's a scam and will not waste any more time on this site. I figure if the webmaster can't take the time to answer a simple email just to even let me know they're still even in business then they don't deserve my business or my money for that matter. Now this doesn't mean if they don't email you within 5 minutes they're automatically a scam. No, you at least need to allow a company 24 hours to return the email which is plenty of time to give them to be fair. If you don't hear from them after a day or two, move on. Their not worth your time.
If you just pay attention, a work from home scam is pretty easy to spot. I can scan a website and pretty much know if it's a scam within seconds of being on the website.
